Gerald Savage, HoChunk Native American, is new to our roster. His passion is Native American cultural history and is experienced in presenting to a diverse audience. As a Road Scholar, he wants to share his grandfather’s dream of educating people about the original inhabitants of this land. Audiences are engaged by this dynamic speaker.

Presentation 1

A Brief History of the Reintroduction of the Native Americans into Illinois

In this presentation, Chief White Winnebago will introduce participants to the culture and history of the HoChunk nation. He will examine the history of his tribal territory and settlements, how his family was relocated into Starved Rock, tribal names and culture, his regalia, and artifacts. For youth groups, there will be Native Dancing, Storytelling, and felt touching.

Native American Storytelling by Chief White Winnebago

In this presentation, Chief White Winnebago will tell five Native American stories, mostly of HoChunk origin, for all ages.

Gerald Savage - HoChunk Native AmericanHoChunk Native American

Gerald Savage—HoChunk Ska Ga in his native language—is a member of the HoChunk nation. He grew up with his grandparents, who raised him in the tribal ways. His grandfather was Chief Walks With the Wind, and HoChunk Ska Ga is Chief White Winnebago.
