A Road Scholar program by Mark Dvorak
One of the most celebrated poets of all time, Illinois’ own Carl Sandburg, wrote an epic poem in the 1930s called “The People, Yes,” which turned the everyday words of Americans into everlasting images on the page. This presentation mixes some of the traditional folk songs preserved by Sandburgùwho was also a folk song collectorùand combines them with some of the words of this Pulitzer Prize winning author. The result is a compelling and entertaining musical portrait of the American essence, and especially the stories of the people of the midwestern heartland.
