Leone Castell Anderson has written two juvenile fiction books set in NW Illinois about the Black Hawk War. While the books are historical fiction, they are based soundly on known historical facts.
Ms. Anderson has spent years researching the history of the Black Hawk War, its impact on the local people, and its implications for the new ‘frontier’ of the Illinois Country.
This program is geared towards families with children, aged 8-14, and will include an examination of the way people lived during the 1830s, a discussion on how the war began, and a look at how boundaries and concepts of land ownership came to play a major role in the conflict.
