HDF is partnering with 10×10 – Girl Rising to organize October screenings of this groundbreaking film about the transformative impact of educating girls. Help spread this important film’s powerful message: when you educate a girl, you can break cycles of poverty in just one generation.
If you haven’t seen it, “Girl Rising” is a critically acclaimed film that “tells the stories of 9 extraordinary girls from 9 countries, written by 9 celebrated writers and narrated by 9 renowned actresses, including Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys, and Selena Gomez.”
It’s astonishing but true that there are 33 million fewer girls in primary school than boys, according to the UN initiative ‘Education First’. The film is part of the 10×10 – Girl Rising campaign to reach global audiences and inspire individuals to take action for girls. It aims to “showcase the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world.”
October 11 is the UN’s International Day of the Girl and, while many screenings are being organized to correspond with this day, screenings or celebrations can take place anytime during the month of October.
